
Young climate activist Licypriya Kngujam has urged the government to enact a law to reverse the impact of climate change. “We urgently need the climate change law,” said the 13-year-old and founder of The Child Movement, while participating in a panel discussion ‘Unified Pathways for a Greener Future’ on the third day of the Summit of Future, organised by the JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) in Kochi on Tuesday.
Stating that she is dreaming of an Earth without thermal power stations, Kangujam said the government should launch special courses to teach environmental education. “Each student should be asked to plant 10 trees. The government should ban all mining activities and impose heavy fines for environmental destruction,” she said.

Former Director General of Police and current Managing Director of Kochi Metro, Lokanath Behra said sustainable development is important for survival.
“The water metro in Kochi is an example of sustainable development. All projects related to water metro are sustainable,” he said.
JAIN (Deemed-to-be University’s) advisory panel member Dr Krishnan N V H said many companies in the world are working towards achieving carbon neutrality. “For example, Apple has announced that it will achieve carbon neutrality by 2025,” he said.
Sridharan Murthy, Advisor of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) insisted on democratisation of knowledge. “Technology, including Artificial Intelligence, should be used for environmental studies,” he said.
