Renowned dancer, choreographer, and musician Dr. Rajashree Warrier and celebrated media personality and celebrity interviewer Rekha Menon shared thought-provoking insights during a fireside chat on ‘Understanding Culture & Diversity in Building Communities’ at the Summit of Future 2025, hosted by Jain (Deemed-to-be University).
Speaking on Day 7 of the summit, the duo reflected on their artistic journeys spanning both the pre-social media era and the digital boom. Addressing the evolving landscape of art and communication, Rekha Menon emphasized the importance of continuous skill enhancement to remain relevant. “Your skills must evolve with the times. If you adapt, you will always have a place in the industry,” she remarked. Stressing the idea that competition is an internal challenge, she added, “For us, the competition is always with ourselves.”

The discussion also delved into the transformative impact of regional identity in media and performing arts. Dr. Rajashree Warrier highlighted how Rekha Menon revolutionized television interviews by embracing colloquial language and local slang, shifting away from the then-dominant Central Travancore dialect. In turn, Rekha acknowledged Rajashree’s contribution to Bharatanatyam, bringing emotions to the art form’s visual storytelling, which had traditionally focused more on poses and structural perfection.
When asked about the future of communication in art and dance, Rekha Menon emphasized that creativity backed by research and knowledge will always be at the forefront. Dr. Rajashree Warrier advised young artists to step away from the digital space occasionally and allow their own imagination to take over.
