Experts discuss the future of Malayalam cinema

The Summit of the Future 2025, hosted by Jain Deemed-to-be University, brought together some of Malayalam cinema’s finest minds for a thought-provoking discussion titled Cinema 2050: Where is Malayalam Film Headed? Led by Maneesh Narayanan from Cue Studio, the panel delved into the possibilities and challenges awaiting the industry in the coming decades.

Director Midhun Manuel Thomas imagined a future where technology and creativity blend seamlessly. “By 2050, we might see AI superstars, VR glasses replacing green screens, and filmmaking becoming easier with advancements like digital walls. Theatres will also evolve with perfect projection systems,” he shared, while hinting at a bold new direction for his upcoming project ‘Aadu 3’.

Arun Chandu envisioned cinema becoming a multi-sensory experience but warned about the risks of over-relying on technology. “AI fatigue is bound to happen. Creators will have to take responsibility and think ethically, no matter how far technology advances,” he said.

Actor Aju Varghese was optimistic about the changes, sharing how new tools already help him better visualize and perform his characters. “The future excites me as a performer,” he said.
